Effective August 7, 2026 · Placeset (“we”, “us”)

Placeset plans your family's dinners. To do that well it needs to know things about how your household eats — and you deserve to know exactly what we collect, why, and who touches it. The short version: we collect what the product needs to work, we don't sell it, and we don't run advertising trackers.

What we collect

Account information: your email address and authentication credentials, handled by our infrastructure provider. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the identifier Apple shares (which may be a private relay email).

Your household's food profile: household size, grocery budget, cuisine preferences, dietary tolerances and allergies (like “no fish” or a nut allergy), health goals (like keto or low-sodium), custom avoid lists, standing instructions, weeknight time limits, and the “in your kitchen” ingredients you enter. This is the heart of the product — it exists so your menus respect your rules.

Content you create: community recipes you write, photos you upload, likes, reports, chef applications, and family (household) memberships.

Usage information: which features you use (menu edits, occasion requests, cook-mode questions, pantry searches), when you use them, and the computational usage of AI requests. We use this to enforce fair-use limits, tune the product, and keep costs honest.

Subscription status: if you subscribe to Placeset Plus, Apple sends us your subscription's status and an anonymous transaction identifier so we can unlock features. We never see your payment details — Apple processes all payment.

If grocery delivery is available and you place an order: your delivery address, phone number, and order contents, shared with the delivery provider and payment processor solely to fulfill that order.

How we use it

To plan your menus: your food profile drives the menu solver and shopping lists.

To power AI features: when you ask for a menu edit, an occasion menu, a pantry search, or a cooking question, we send the relevant parts of your request and food profile (like your allergies and budget) to our AI provider to generate the response. AI providers process this data to serve your request; we do not permit them to train on it.

To run your household: family members you approve see the shared weekly menu and shopping list.

To keep the lights on: fair-use limits, abuse prevention, debugging, and aggregate product analytics. We do not sell your data, and we do not use third-party advertising trackers.

Who we share it with

Service providers who process data on our behalf: our database and authentication host (Supabase), our AI provider (Anthropic) for concierge requests, our image-generation provider (Google) for recipe artwork, our email provider (Resend) for account emails, and Apple for subscription management. When grocery delivery is available, delivery and payment partners (DoorDash, Stripe) receive what's needed to fulfill and charge your order.

Nutrition and budget benchmarks use public data (USDA FoodData Central, USDA Cost of Food reports, BLS Consumer Price Index). No personal data is sent to these services.

Community content you publish — approved recipes, your photos, and your first name or chef attribution — is visible to other users and on public share pages, because that's the point of publishing it.

We share data with authorities only when legally required, and we'd tell you unless prohibited.

Your family, your data

In a Placeset family, active members see the household's shared weekly menu, shopping list, and custom items. Your personal profile settings, subscription status, and private drafts stay your own. Only the family admin can order groceries or change household-wide settings.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. To delete your account and its data, contact us at ryan@placeset.app and we'll complete the deletion within 30 days. Published community recipes can be unpublished on request; anonymized aggregate statistics may be retained.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is controlled with row-level security so users can only read what's theirs (or their family's), and API keys for AI and data services live server-side only — never in the app.

Children

Placeset is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Email ryan@placeset.app to exercise any of these — we honor them for everyone, not just where the law requires.

Changes

If we materially change this policy, we'll update this page and note the new effective date below. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
